കഴിഞ്ഞ മേ 17നു-,കല്ക്കത്തയിലെ സെന്റ് ആന്ഡ്റൂ പള്ളിയെ ധ്വംസനം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായിട്ടു വാതലില് അഗ്ന്യസ്ത്രങ്ങള് ഇട്ടിരുന്നതായി കാണപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ പള്ളിയുടെ ചുറ്റും നാലടി പൊക്കമുള്ള ഇരുമ്പ് അഴികള് അടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആ പള്ളിയിലുള്ള തോട്ടത്തിനകത്ത് ഒരു ബംഗാളി കൃസ്ത്യാനി താമസമുണ്ടു. അതിലെ പാതിരി താമസിക്കുന്നത് പള്ളിയില് നിന്ന് അധികം ദൂരമല്ലാത്ത വേറൊരു തെരുവിലാണ്. കാലത്ത് അഞ്ചു മണിക്കു തോട്ടക്കാരന് കതകുകള് തുറന്നു. പ്രധാന വാതല് തുറന്നപ്പൊള് ഒരു വലിയ പന്തിനോളം വലുപ്പത്തില് ഒരു അഗ്ന്യസ്ത്രം കടലാസില് പൊതിഞ്ഞു തറയില് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതുകണ്ടു. ഉടനെ വിവരം മിസ്തര് മണ്ടാള് എന്ന പാതിരിയെ തെരിയപ്പെടുത്തി. ആ വാതലിനു സമീപം 20 വയസ്സുപ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു ബംഗാളി നിന്നിരുന്നു. മിസ്തര് മണ്ടാള് വന്നു നോക്കി നില്ക്കവെ, ആയത് എന്താണെന്ന് ചോദിച്ചുങ്കൊണ്ട്, ആ ബംഗാളി സമീപത്തു ചെന്നു. പാതിരി പൊലീസുകാര്ക്ക് ആളയച്ചു. പൊലീസുകാര് വന്നു ചേരുന്നതിനു മുമ്പായി ആ ബംഗാളി പമ്പ കടക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ സംഗതി നടന്നതിനുമൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിനുമുമ്പ് ആലിപുരം ഡിസ്ട്രിക്ട് മജിസ്ട്രേട്ടിന്റെ വീട്ടിലെ പറമ്പില് മൂന്നു ബംഗാളികളെ കാണുകയുണ്ടായി. അതിന്റെ ശേഷമാണ് മജിസ്ട്രേട്ടിന്റെ ഭവനത്തിനു ബലമായ പൊലീസുകാവല് ഇടുവിച്ചത്. മുമ്പ് പ്രസ്താവിച്ചിരുന്ന ഭവനങ്ങളിലുള്ള കിണറുകളുടെ സമീപത്തും മറ്റും ചിലര് രാത്രികാലങ്ങളില് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നതായി അറിഞ്ഞ് പൊലീസുകാര് തിരക്കം ചെയ്തു വരുന്നു. സദര് സര്ക്കാര് എന്നൊരാളെ സംശയിച്ചു പിടിക്കയും, അയാളുടെ സഹോദരനായ മിഥുനപുരത്തെ ജെയിലരുടെ ഭവനത്തെ പരിശോധിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. മിഥുനപുരത്ത് ഇനിയും അരാജകകക്ഷിക്കാര് ഉണ്ടെന്നും, അവര് ആ ഉപജാപോദ്യമങ്ങള് നടത്തുന്നത് സ്ത്രീകള് മുഖാന്തരമാണെന്നും കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതിനിടെ, പൂനാപട്ടണത്തില് ഒരെടത്ത് രണ്ടു ഭരണിക്കകത്തു സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ട വെടിമരുന്നുകള് നിമിത്തം ശബ്ദത്തൊടു കൂടിയ വെടിപൊട്ടല് ഉണ്ടായി. പരിശോധനയില് ആയത് ബംഗാള് ബഹളത്തെ തുടര്ന്നുണ്ടായതല്ലെന്നും കാണുകയുണ്ടായി.
മേ 18നു- അരാജകകക്ഷികളായി പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരെ വിസ്തരിക്കുന്നതിനായി ആലിപുരം മജിസ്ട്രേട്ടു ഹാജരായി. പ്രതികള് 26 പേരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മിസ്റ്റര് നാര്ട്ടന് ഗവര്ന്മേണ്ടുവശത്തു വാദിച്ചു. വാദിഭാഗത്ത് ഒരു സാക്ഷി വിസ്തരിച്ചു. മാനിക്ക് തോലാ തോട്ടത്തില്വച്ചു നടന്ന സംഗതികളെപ്പറ്റി ചോദിച്ചു. അടുത്ത ദിവസത്തെക്കു കേസ് മാറ്റി. മേ 19നു-ആലിപുരം പൊലീസുകോര്ട്ടില്വച്ചു വിസ്താരം തുടങ്ങി. അന്വേഷണങ്ങള് നടത്തിയ ഇന്സ്പെക്ടര് മിസ്റ്റര് പി. സി. വിശ്വാസിനെ വിസ്തരിച്ചു. പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ട പുള്ളികളെയും എടുത്ത സാമാനങ്ങളെയും പററി മൊഴികൊടുത്തു. പ്രമാണങ്ങള് ഹാജരാക്കി. അന്നുകൊണ്ടു വിസ്താരം മുഴുവനും നടന്നില്ലാ. ഇതിനിടയ്ക്ക് ഒരു സാക്ഷിക്കാരന്റെ മടിയില് അഗ്ന്യസ്ത്രം ഉണ്ടെന്നു സംശയിച്ചു പിടിച്ചു ശോധന ചെയ്തതില് ഒന്നും ലഭിച്ചില്ല. മുസഫിര്പുരത്തെ കളക്ടര് മിസ്റ്റര് വുണ്ട്മാന്ന് ഭയപ്പെടുത്തലായി ഒരെഴുത്തുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. കവിരാജ് ഔഷധശാലയിലെ ബേജായിരത്നസേന************************************************************************************ജാമ്യത്തിന്മേല് വിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. മേ 20നു- സീല്ദാ സ്റ്റേഷനില് അരാജകകക്ഷികള് വരുന്നു എന്നുകേട്ട് അനേകം ജനങ്ങള് കൂട്ടംകൂടി. അതറിഞ്ഞു പൊലീസുകാര് വേണ്ട ഒരുക്കങ്ങള് മുന്കൂട്ടി കരുതി. റെയില്വണ്ടിയില് അവര് വന്നിറങ്ങിയ ഉടനെ, പൊലീസ് ഗാട്ടു് സഹിതം ആലിപുരത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഹൌറാ ഡിസ്ട്രിക്ററിലെ അന്വേഷണം ഇതേവരെ തൃപ്തികരമായിരുന്നില്ലാ. എന്നാല്, കാഷ്തമാര് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുവച്ച് 12 വയസ്സുപ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു മഹമ്മദീയക്കുട്ടിയെ കഴിഞ്ഞ തിങ്കളാഴ്ച പിടികൂടി ശോധന ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ കുട്ടി ഒരു യന്ത്രശാലയില്നിന്നു വരുന്നവഴി ഒരു അഗ്ന്യസ്ത്രം വഴിയില് കിടക്കുന്നതുകണ്ടു. അവന് അതിനെ എടുത്തു വീട്ടില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി. അവിടെ വച്ച് ആ ഉണ്ട പൊട്ടുകയും, അവനു വളരെ പരുക്കുകള് തട്ടുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവന്റെ ഒരു വിരലിനെ കണ്ടിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു. ചികിത്സയിലിരുന്ന കുട്ടി ഇപ്പൊള് പൊലീസു ബന്തോവസ്തില് ഇരിക്കയാണ്. ബംഗാളിലെ കൃഷിക്കാര് ചേര്ന്ന സംഘത്തില്വച്ച് ഈ ഭയങ്കരസംഭവങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടായിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതിനെപ്പറ്റി, വളരെ പരിതപിക്കുന്നതായി പ്രസ്താവിക്കയുണ്ടായി. മേ 20നു- വന്ദേമാതരം പത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രസിദ്ധകനെ വീണ്ടും ഒരു രാജദ്രോഹകരമായ പ്രസംഗം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചതിന് കുററപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രതിക്കു സുഖക്കേടാകയാല് ഹാജരായില്ല. കേസുമാററിവച്ചു.
Uproar in Bengal

On May 17th of last year, bombs were discovered at the door of St. Andrew's Church in Calcutta in an attempt to destroy it. The church is surrounded by four-foot-high iron railings. A Bengali Christian resides in the church garden, while the pastor lives, not far away, in another street. The gardener opened the doors at five o'clock in the morning and discovered a bomb, roughly the size of a large ball, lying on the floor inside, wrapped in paper. The information was immediately relayed to Mr. Mondal, the pastor. A 20-year-old Bengali man was standing near the door. When Mr. Mondal arrived and stood looking, the Bengali approached and asked what the matter was. The pastor then sent for the police, but the Bengali escaped before they arrived. Three days before this incident, three Bengalis were observed in the yard of the Alipore District Magistrate's house. Subsequently, a strong police guard was deployed at the Magistrate's house. Due to reports of people moving around near the wells at the mentioned houses during nighttime, the police have increased patrols in the area. Sadar Sarkar has been arrested as a suspect, and his brother, who is the jailor at Midnapore, had his house searched by the police. It has been observed that there are anarchists in Midnapore even now, who are carrying out these schemes with the help of women volunteers.
Meanwhile, in Pune, a loud explosion occurred due to ammunition placed in two containers. Upon inspection, it was determined that this incident was unrelated to the Bengal riots. On May 18th, the Alipore Magistrate presided over the questioning of 26 accused individuals identified as anarchists. Mr. Norton represented the Government during the proceedings. A prosecution witness was examined and questioned about the events that took place in the Maniktala garden. The case was adjourned to the following day for further proceedings. On May 19th, the hearing commenced at the Alipore Police Court. Mr. P. C. Biswas, the investigating inspector, was examined regarding the arrested individuals and the confiscated items. Documents relevant to the case were presented during the proceedings. However, the entire trial did not conclude on that day. Additionally, a witness was suspected of concealing a bomb in his waist and was searched, but nothing was found.
The collector of Muzaffarpur, Mr. Wundmann, received a threatening letter.
Bejai Ratnasena of Kaviraj Pharmacy was released on bail.
On May 20th, a large crowd gathered at Sealdah Station upon hearing that the anarchists were arriving. Anticipating this, the police made necessary preparations in advance. Upon their arrival, the anarchists were immediately taken into custody and escorted by police to Alipore for further proceedings. The investigation in Howrah District has been unsatisfactory thus far. However, last Monday, a 12-year-old Mohammedan boy was caught and questioned at Kashtamar. This boy had been walking home from a machine shop when he spotted a bomb lying in the road. He picked it up and took it home, where it exploded, causing serious injuries. As a result, one of his fingers had to be amputated. The child, who was receiving medical treatment, is now in police custody. A group of farmers in Bengal expressed profound regret over the occurrence of these terrible events.
On May 20th, the publisher of the "Vande Mataram" newspaper was once again charged for publishing a seditious speech. The accused did not appear in court due to illness, resulting in the postponement of the case.
